Colour Food
Colour foods are mainly the province of the Canary Fancy but are also used by other bird keepers to enhance the colour of their birds' plumage. Great care should be taken when offering colour agents, as too much will undoubtedly give unwanted colouring effects. Many breeders prefer Haith's® Ready-mixed Colour Food, as it is time-saving and trouble-free. It uses Haith's® Robin Red and it is rich in proteins, which promote tip-top condition especially in show birds. Some top breeders prefer to use Haith’s® Spanish Pepper RRR, however, the addition of a little Carophyll* Red may improve the colour, but beware, too much could result in an unwanted pinkish or even a purplish hue. Red Factor Canary Food is a specially formulated mixture to be fed during the moult to Red Factor Canaries. Robin Red is the traditional and most frequently used colouring agent fed to moulting birds to ensure a red colour enhancement of new feathers. Posture Canaries such as the Norwich, Yorkshire and Lizard along with many Mules & Hybrids can take on deeper orange or red colouration by the addition of just sufficient Robin Red to the rearing softfood. For best results colour feeding should begin before birds start to drop feathers, so allowing colour to pass into the blood stream prior to commencement of new feather growth. It is especially recommended for the Novice breeder, as results are predictable. * Registered trademark of Roche Products Limited
