"I have just ordered my THIRD one of these 4-port niger seed feeders. Why three 4-port and not one super-large one that will accommodate many birds at once? Well, in my own experience, although I have quite a number of goldfinches visiting my garden daily, when there is one pair on the feeder they will not allow others near it, not even their own offspring shortly after the breeding season, or so it seems. So, I've decided to have a number of smaller feeders spread around the garden to accommodate them all and the idea seems to work. One other point for those contemplating a niger seed feeder for the first time - they DO work. You almost certainly will get goldfinches, but be patient. It took these delightful birds a whole year to find mine, but now I'm inundated with them. In fact, they practically come knocking on my door to remind me to fill them up if I let them get a bit low! This particular model is superb, so a word of warning - don't be tempted to buy a cheaper model from your local market or pet shop because the holes will probably be slightly larger - too large, in fact - and therefore more seed will be dropped on the ground for other birds, defeating the object of attracting goldfinches.
