"I started using these last winter and was amazed at the result. I soon had my first goldfinches, a regular charm of them (16 most days), down to 4 once they started breeding. Only 2 would ever select the nearby niger seed in preference. Another newcomer was a Pied Wagtail who stayed with us all winter, feeding on the chips placed in a ground cage. Oddly he seemed to need a drink at the bird bath every three or four mouthfulls but kept eating most of the day. Nearly all the birds who come to our garden seemed to love the chips and those placed on open ground were consumed faster than I could afford so I had to limit them and just add some normal mixtures.
