Ask Bill Oddie
Ask Bill Oddie is back on Thursday 20 February and it's coming *live* to twitter and facebook from Bill's garden in London. It's time to submit your #AskBillOddie questions - we'll get Bill to answer as many as he can on the 20th. We'll answer questions live via twitter and facebook on the day and record personal answers (as usual) which will be shared on the Bill Oddie's Bird Food Recipes YouTube page ASAP.
If you’re not quite sure what to ask, take a look at the previous Ask Bill Oddie questions by clicking here.

"Magpie" by Carolyn Jones

We have a magpie in our area with fawn colours where black should be and predominantly white. We have never seen one like this before (getting on a bit!!). Is this unusual?
Would be grateful for your expertise!
Haith's customer services:
Hello Carolyn,
Thank you for your comments, this is definitely unusual as they generally look the same. However, slight differences in colours can occur that could be due to different factors. It would be great if you could get a picture of it for us and we can take a closer look.
All the best,

Hello, I've spotted a pair of birds I've never seen before. Spotted chest, grey head, broad grey strip on back, yellowish hue on chest, eating a chopped up Apple. Very much the size of a thrush, but plumper.
Haith's customer services:
Hi Marion
Many thanks for contacting us. From your description i beleive that you may have seen a Fieldfare.
Many thanks
Best wishes

"Bird Feeding Stations" by MR S GREEN

Hi Bill wonder if you can help ? Over the years we have purchased numerous feeding poles to hang the feeders onto , unfortunately they have all tended to eventually bend or lean over as the joints get worn because of wear and the elements ie wind rain ect most if not all of these feeder poles are in three or more sections bolted or screwed together . We cant find any feeder poles that are strong enough to meet our needs and we dont want to buy anymore of the same design do you know of any decent feeder poles or will we have to resort to plan b a 4by 4 post set into the ground with feeder hooks ?

Natural England has launched an incentive to promote supplementary feeding of farm birds, but there appears to be no guidance regarding QC of said bird diets, should there be QC of bird diets?

What’s going so wrong for Hedgehogs? Why are they in such a serious decline? And what can we do to help them?

I recently read The State of Nature report and it said that 6,000 species have been assessed using the “Red List” criteria, and more than one in 10 are thought to be under threat of extinction in the UK. Are species REALLY under threat of extinction?

What’s causing the floods, Bill? Is it climate change, or have we mismanaged our rivers and water courses as intimated by some of the press?

I'm not sure if you're aware of the influx of rare Crossbills we have had since last year, my question is can small populations of rarities such as these breed in the UK?
PS i very much enjoyed your Gripping yarns book :)

Dear Bill,
Are birds affected by the wet weather or is it good news to them?
