Attracting birds to your garden

Monday, 31st July 2017

Living things have three basic needs to survive; - shelter, water, and food.
Our gardens, if we are lucky enough to have one, can provide homes for an enchanting variety of wildlife such as birds, bees and butterflies.
For the majority of people, the traditional way to feed wild birds is from a bird table. It doesn’t have to be a fancy table, a tray on a wooden pole is ideal, even a roof is not essential but offer some protection from the rain.

Ground & Tables
The most important part is where to site your bird table. It is best away from full sun and driving winds, and at least 6ft away from objects to make it harder for predators to approach feeding birds. Your garden birds would also appreciate a convenient place to land before they approach the bird table as they are constantly on the lookout for predators.

Should you choose to feed your birds using bird feeders then we have a large selection for you to try.

Range of Niger Feeders

Goldfinches are becoming increasingly common in our gardens.  They are attracted to Niger seed and Goldfinch & Siskin Mixture. Both of these mixes have to be fed from a special Goldfinch Flocker.

Peanut feeders

Peanuts, which are loved by birds like Blue Tits and Greenfinches, are another garden bird favourite.  Available from Haith’s as a Premium or Standard variety you can be sure that when you buy from us they are all aflatoxin free.  Please note that during the breeding season we always recommend peanuts should be fed from a peanut feeder.

Starlings, Blackbirds and Chaffinches all eagerly take suet. Obtainable in pellets, suet blocks, fat balls and nuggets they are made from high-quality fat with wholesome ingredients. With an assortment of flavours, your garden birds will surely adore visiting your garden for this tasty treat.

Fresh water is always in demand and should be plentiful at any time of year. A bath that is topped up each day will attract regular garden bird visitors. Keeping them filled and fresh is a small and enjoyable role to play each day. View our range of bird baths here.
