A guide to choosing a nest box
There are few things more satisfying or entertaining than having birds take to a nest box that you have put up. Ideally, no garden should be devoid of a bird house (or two), especially if there aren’t any trees with “natural” hollows. Why not save the birds some time and trouble by providing a ready to move into nest box?

National Nest Box Week is a traditional part of the birding calendar. It runs for a week from 14th February each year.

The Jackdaw
The Jackdaw (Corvus monedula) is the smallest member of the crow family. It has a dark grey to black plumage with a contrasting grey nape, light coloured eyes and a distinctive silvery sheen to the back of its head.

The Great Spotted Woodpecker
The Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) is a medium-sized bird, and is one of two black and white woodpeckers that can be found in Britain.
