Strictly Come Displaying
Monday, 16th March 2015
In spring, potential partners display to each other, with the male invariably taking the lead. Some displays are amongst the most bizarre and beautiful sights in nature.
When mankind and womankind started dancing it was surely birds that inspired many of their best moves, from the balletic swaying of the swans, to the foot stomping hoe down of Prairie Chickens, and the exuberant leaping of Cranes, whose display is in fact referred to as “dancing.” In spring a garden becomes a green ballroom, and the birds are contestants in their own version of Strictly Come Dancing. It would make great telly. How about “Display for Today?”
