The Enchanting World of Greenfinches

The Enchanting World of Greenfinches

Greenfinches are commonly found in the wild, but they can also be successfully raised as pets within an aviary. Many aviary enthusiasts consider them an excellent choice for beginners, as they are known for their resilience, inherent hardiness and the fact that they do not demand any specialised care or management.

They are truly colourful characters, displaying flashes of green and yellow as they gracefully fly. They are also recognized for their remarkable capacity to peacefully coexist with a variety of other bird species, demonstrating their adaptability and social nature.

Greenfinches can successfully breed in either an aviary or a spacious cage, depending on their accustomed living conditions They typically construct their nests in canary nesting pans which they line with a combination of hay and coconut fibre. The female takes on the responsibility of building the nest and incubating the eggs, demonstrating their nurturing instincts in the breeding process.

When it comes to feeding the young, Haith’s Rearing and Condition Food plays a vital role. This specialised food not only promotes fertility but also enhances egg production and helps reduce issues such as egg binding and dead-in-shell occurrences. It is both appetising and highly nutritious, aiding in improving the condition of the birds and enhancing their stamina.

Greenfinches have a strong preference for seeds and their beaks are uniquely designed to crack open hard-cased seeds to reach the delicious inner contents. They can find delight in our well-regarded Greenfinch Mix; this blend is carefully crafted to fulfil their dietary needs and you’ll be astonished by the impeccable cleanliness of the mix – the seeds practically glisten. This is achieved through a meticulous process of individually super-cleaning each seed before combining them with other seeds. It has quickly become one of the most sought-after seed mixes for British birds.

These beloved birds are renowned for their enchanting song, which resonates as a vibrant, melodious chorus marked by its exuberant and rapid high-pitched twittering and chirping. Listening to their song is an absolute delight, leaving you brimming with joy and wearing a warm, contented smile.

Whether you're an experienced aviary enthusiast or a novice, Greenfinches can certainly add colour and music to your avian world.
