Eider

The Eider is a duck of coastal and rocky areas, much commoner in the north of England, Scotland and Ireland, where it breeds.

It is the UK’s heaviest duck and also the fastest flying.

It has a nearly unique wedge-shaped head with a triangular bill.

If you see any duck on the sea with this shaped head, even if the plumage is not distinguishable, it will probably be an Eider.

The Eider is scarcely ever found away from the coast where it hunts for molluscs.
